Miles Bridges Doubles Down on Desire to Remain in Charlotte
It's trade deadline day in the NBA and by 3 p.m. EST, we will know what the Charlotte Hornets roster will look like for the remainder of the season.
Miles Bridges is one of a handful of Hornets whose name has been floated around in trade rumors over the last few weeks with reported interest from Phoenix, Utah, Detroit, and others. However, there's still a chance that the Hornets decide to hold onto him and try to work out a long-term deal in the summer.
Bridges will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, so if Charlotte has no interest in handing out a new contract to the 25-year-old forward, then it makes all the sense in the world to try to trade him and get something in return. The tricky part to it all is Bridges has a no-trade clause, meaning he can veto any potential trade.
When asked if he'd like to remain in Charlotte, Bridges responded, "Yeah, my answer doesn't change. I'd love to be here," he stated in Wednesday postgame press conference. "I got drafted here and they stuck with me through my lowest time, so I for sure want to be here. We haven't played with our full healthy team the whole year. I feel like if we had our full team, it's no way we wouldn't be in the playoffs. Not even the Play-In, I feel like we'd be in the playoffs. We've got a great future ahead of us if we can just stay healthy."
Although Bridges has publicly expressed his desire to remain in Charlotte, he could waive the no-trade clause for the right situation. It'll be interesting to see what moves GM Mitch Kupchak makes, if any, ahead of today's deadline and if Bridges remains a part of this team's young nucleus.
