Nets Hand Hornets Third Straight Loss

The Hornets move to 20-46 on the season.

BROOKLYN, NY - The defense failed to travel with the Charlotte Hornets as they were carved up all night in the 102-86 loss to the Brooklyn Nets Sunday night.

The Hornets had no answer for the recently acquired Mikal Bridges who erupted for 19 points in the first quarter alone on a perfect 9/9 shooting from the floor. Surprisingly he only attempted one shot from downtown, doing most of his work by attacking the basket. Brooklyn closed out the first on a 17-4 run as the Hornets made just one field goal in the final three minutes.

Spencer Dinwiddie and Joe Harris each drilled a trio of threes to help create even further separation. All nine players that saw action in the first half for Brooklyn registered at least two points.

Offensively for Charlotte, they just couldn't get any open looks as LaMelo Ball's absence continues to be problematic. As a team, the Hornets turned it over seven times, six of which occurred in the second quarter.

The Nets took a 70-41 lead into the half.

It took quite a while for either team to make shots out of the break as they combined for 15 points in the first seven minutes. Charlotte finally heated up and went on a 17-2 run to close the third, led by Terry Rozier who knocked down three threes. That momentum carried over into the fourth as Charlotte cut the lead all the way down to 15.

Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn called a timeout in an attempt put a stop to the Hornets comeback attempt and it worked. Charlotte couldn't get any closer and the Nets were able to keep a 15-point stiff arm the rest of the way.

The Hornets will be back at it in the Big Apple on Tuesday as they take on the New York Knicks. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. EST.
