On the eve of NBA Free Agency Yahoo Sport's Jake Fischer released an update from Free Agency situations across the league. Within the article, Fischer shares the latest intel from his sources regarding the Charlotte Hornets and Miles Bridges:

The Hornets don’t appear to have a straightforward path to re-sign Miles Bridges. The 25-year-old forward missed all of 2023-24 following a domestic violence incident last summer. Bridges and his representation at Klutch Sports have even broached the subject of Charlotte pulling his qualifying offer to make Bridges an unrestricted free agent, sources said.

ANALYSIS

This report comes as a surprise, as a result I'm treating it with scepticism. How after 12 months would the Charlotte Hornets not have a plan for re-signing Miles Bridges? I hope the report is inaccurate, or else there will be serious questions around the Charlotte Hornets front office's preparation for a key off-season.

Pulling the qualifying offer frees up $14 million in CAP space, but makes little difference for Charlotte who already have their full MLE available ($12.4). It's Klutch's job to do the best for their client, Bridges being an unrestricted free agent would undoubtedly improve his contract offers, but the Hornets aren't giving up leverage unless they have another plan.
