The History of the 27th Pick in the Draft
Due to the trade involving the 13th pick (Jalen Duren) in last years draft, Charlotte control Denver's 1st round pick which this year which has fallen at 27th overall. So what does the history of the 27th pick look like over the past 10 years?

Overall, that is an impressive list for a late first round pick. Rudy Gobert (2013) and Pascal Siakam (2016) take the headlines with x5 All Star appearances between them. Both took multiple years to develop and establish themselves in the league, but emerged as important players on high stakes playoff teams.
The next group of "Good Starters" include Robert Williams (2018) and Kyle Kuzma (2017). Williams slid on draft night in 2018 due to some lingering injury and maturity concerns but is a major swing piece for title favorites Boston. Kuzma won a championship with the Lakers in the bubble, before having a breakout season this year in Washington. Kuzma is a free agent this off-season and is looking for a major payday.
The "Rotation Players" include Bogdanovic (2014) and Nance Jr (2015), both have started at times in their career but have found most success as 6th/7th men coming off the bench.
Unfortunately, over the last 4 years the streak of impactful players has slowed. Kabengele (2019) was released before the end of his rookie contract. Azubuike has struggled to stay healthy and earn playing time in Utah. Cam Thomas has flashed some incredible scoring ability, including three 40+ point games in a row in February this year. However, he has struggled to find a regular spot in Brooklyn's rotation due to his defense. Jovic was given limited opportunity as a rookie on Miami this year, it's too early to judge the success of that selection.
Overall, if Charlotte keep the 27th pick in the draft history tells us there is a chance it could emerge into an important part of the Hornets' young core.
