What is Kai Jones Doing?

There's never a dull moment in Charlotte.
In this story:

Just when you thought the Charlotte Hornets would have a fairly quiet offseason for once, Kai Jones decides to make some bold statements on Twitter and post some odd videos on Instagram Live.

I'm not here to analyze the videos that went live or to even begin to understand what was said and the point that he was trying to get across, but all this recent chaos does is confirm what we already assumed - Kai needs a change of scenery.

The former first-round pick has failed to live up to expectations (to this point). In his first two years with the team, Jones has appeared in 67 games averaging nine minutes per contest. With Mark Williams taking a firm hold of the starting center spot and the emergence of Nick Richards as a quality backup, there's no clear path to the floor for the rangy big.

Aside from the underwhelming performance on the court, the last thing the Hornets need is another potential distraction. Jones clearly calling out his teammates on social media is the perfect example.

If this kind of stuff continues, you have to consider making a move of some sort. The only problem is moving on from Jones likely means releasing him outright. Despite being a former first-rounder, the trade value just doesn't exist. Teams are not going to be willing to trade draft capital for a player who has bounced back and forth between Greensboro and Charlotte and on top of it, makes these odd remarks on social media.Β
