According to a report from Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, a reporter for all Cleveland sports, there's been some persistent rumblings connecting Cleveland Cavaliers' All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell with the New York Knicks. A rumor that would prove to be huge if true could eventually have major implications for multiple teams, especially for the Utah Jazz.

Just one year following the massive deals of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, the Jazz continue to look like they've gotten the better end of each deal more deach day. Combining this recent development with the recent Minnesota Timberwolves' first round loss in five games (and Gobert's end-of-season altercation), the Jazz rebuild is off to a fantastic start.

Considering the Jazz have ownership of the Cavaliers' 2025 and 2027 first round picks, Cleveland has little room for error when it comes to Mitchell's situation. If they aren't able to find significant playoff success by the time his contract ends, the franchise could find themselves in trouble.

Mitchell remains signed to his current contract until the 2026 offseason, when he then has a player option to decide on. If any of these rumblings have truth to them, you'd have to imagine he at least declines this option when the time comes to test the market.

These rumors of a potential addition to the Knicks is nothing new for Mitchell. With his hometown ties to New York and the big market the franchise is able to provide, these rumors surrounding him and the Big Apple will likely be present his entire career.

While it seems as if right now a Donovan Mitchell trade is far from happening at the moment, it's definitely a situation to keep your eyes on. Jazz CEO Danny Ainge and general manager Justin Zanik just continue to reap the benefits of the gutsy decision to trade both of the long-time Utah stars last offseason.
