Heat’s Rumored Asking Price for Tyler Herro Very Attainable for Jazz
As a result of the persistent trade request from Damian Lillard to join forces with Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat, it almost but guarantees the inevitable demise of Tyler Herro in South Beach. With Herro deciding to remove 'Miami Heat Guard' from his Twitter bio, it seems at the surface that it will be a mutual decision to part ways; whenever that time may come.
But what exactly is Miami asking in return for him?
With trade rumors and reports surfacing by the day, we now have a new sense of what a package could look like for the four-year league veteran.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, his report details a first-round pick as a potential return for Herro. An asking price that’s not only extremely achievable for the Utah Jazz but is an opportunity they should act on expeditiously.
We know how well the Jazz are stockpiled with draft assets, specifically with first-rounders. It’s much easier said than done to draft a player of Herro’s caliber with one of those selections, so throwing a single pick into a multi-team deal to send him to Utah wouldn’t be the worst decision by any metric.
Sure, his contract does have some weight attached to it, but it’s nothing the Jazz can’t handle on their books. With a low-risk, high-reward addition of Herro, it’s the perfect opportunity to maximize the assets on hand for Danny Ainge and Co.
The hesitancy from making a deal because of the contract implications for a 23-year-old averaging 20 points a game should be borderline irrelevant. There’s clear potential and value in Herro as a player. Passing on that upside and production for such a small reported price is a hard sell.
However, the rumors involving Damian Lillard and his pending trade request from the Portland Trail Blazers seem to be lingering longer than anyone would like to see. Any movement on either Miami or Portland’s front could be weeks, even months from happening.
Therefore, the Jazz will need to stay both active and flexible through the duration of this offseason. The front office has already maintained some extremely respected improvements on the roster, but there’s even more room for growth.
With a CEO like Danny Ainge being the head of this operation, Jazz fans are in safe hands with how this roster will continue to be constructed moving forward.
