Jazz Rookie Keyonte George Goes Off in Summer League Win Over Clippers
The Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers competed in the most eye-pleasing contest of Saturday night's Las Vegas Summer League. The back-and-forth activity resembled a competitive tennis match as players from both teams continuously switched ends of the court.
The Jazz led for the majority of the game, but the Clippers chopped into the lead late in the fourth quarter. The game was sealed when Jazz forward Micah Potter was fouled with five seconds remaining.
The story of the night was rookie Keyonte George. Some of the teams who drafted prior to the Jazz did not complete their player due diligence as George has become a flat steal as the No. 16 pick of the most recent NBA draft.
George tallied 33 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter, and 10 assists on Saturday night. He connected on 12-of-24 shots from the field, 6-of-15 three-pointers, and made all three free-throw attempts while committing one foul and only two turnovers.
George's33 points are the most scored as a Jazz Summer Leaguer since Donovan Mitchell's 37 points in the 2017 summer action. Needless to say, he absolutely got wild on the Clippers.
Chipping in was backcourt mate Ochai Agbaji, who stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Notable performances were turned in by Potter and Colbey Ross, who scored 18 and seven points, respectively.
The Clippers showcased Xavier Moon, who tossed in a team-high 26 points while shooting a blistering 71.4% from the field and 6-of-8 three-pointers. Point guard Jason Preston scored 15 points with 10 assists, while Matt Morgan scored 14 points off the bench. All of the Clipper starters scored in double-figures.
I understand it's only Summer League, but hopefully, Jazz Nation was tuned in for this contest as it was the Keyonte George show. The Jazz will face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night at 8:00 pm. And just in case we get a Rudy Gobert sighting, Walker Kessler is in Vegas.
