Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson Gains Interest From Western Conference Spenders
With less than a week to go until NBA free agency starts firing up, there already looks to be a market for the Utah Jazz guard, Jordan Clarkson. According to recent reports, the Houston Rockets already have an eye on the veteran combo guard. With the most cap space available to spend this summer, Houston will be among the most active teams in the league next week.
"According to a person with knowledge of their thinking, they have interest in the Bucks’ Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez, the Nuggets’ Bruce Brown, the Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson, the Lakers’ Rui Hachimura and Austin Reeves, the Nets’ Cam Johnson, the Warriors’ Donte DiVincenzo, the Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks, the Raptors’ Jakob Poeltl and the Mavericks’ Dwight Powell."

The list Feigen mentioned was indeed an extensive one, and the Rockets clearly can’t afford to sign all of the guys mentioned above. However, it’s something to keep track of if you’re the Jazz. Considering the amount of money the Rockets have on hand at the moment, a both pricey and long-term offer to Clarkson could be in the cards. If so, it’ll be interesting to see if Utah will match the money and interest.
The Rockets have made it no secret they’re looking to make a big jump going into next season. After adding Ime Udoka as the leader and head coach of this rebuild combined with a successful NBA Draft, a big free agency might be exactly what this team needs to take them over the top. Clarkson has proven to be an extremely effective sixth man in years past, and Houston can provide that exact role with good money attached.
Needless to say, the Jazz could have some threats when it comes to re-signing their veteran guard. While Utah still has the cap space to manage to bring Clarkson back to the roster, balancing that money with how he fits with the current roster’s timeline is something to watch entering July’s free agency.
If the value doesn’t quite match up, we may see Clarkson opening on a new team this October.
