John Collins Trade Gives Jazz a Championship-Caliber Frontline
The Utah Jazz have acquired forward John Collins via trade from the Atlanta Hawks, and once again, CEO Danny Ainge has struck gold. Alongside center Walker Kessler and All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen, Collins' arrival gives Utah a case for the best frontline in the NBA.
Of course, Collins will need time to mesh with his new teammates, but the Jazz, without question, were on the winning end of this trade. Let's take a closer look at why Collins is a great fit with the Jazz and why this could become a supreme frontline in the league.
Collins was actually born in Layton, Utah. He was selected with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft by the Hawks. He has averaged 15.8 points and eight rebounds per game and was selected to the NBA All-Rookie team in 2017-18.
Standing at 6-foot-90 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, Collins is just what the doctor ordered for the Jazz. He is very athletic with his three-point shot-making ability.
Less than two seasons ago, Utah was the smallest team in the NBA. Fast forward to today, and the trio of Kessler, Markkanen, and Collins have flipped that perception on its ear, making for an extremely stiff matchup for opponents.
With Utah's frontcourt size, good luck trying to snag rebounds or score around the basket against the Jazz this season. There is still time for the Jazz to make additional moves prior to the 2024 tip-off, but all signs point to Utah wanting to win now.
We will keep a close eye on possible backcourt maneuvers by the Jazz coming down the pike, but the Collins trade has to receive an A+ grade. 'Trader Danny' will look to sustain the momentum as the Jazz inch deeper into the NBA offseason.
