It appears the Utah Jazz have dodged a bullet on the injury front. According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, Keyonte George MRI on his ankle injury revealed no fracture.

“Utah Jazz rookie guard Keyonte George will be out for the remainder of summer league, League Sources tell The Athletic,” Jones tweeted. “His overall timetable is still to be determined, but an MRI revealed no fractures. George sprained his right ankle last night against the Denver Nuggets.”

Although this is a big sigh of relief for Jazz fans, it’s still unknown whether George will be 100% ready for training camp. Jazz Summer League head coach Evan Bradds took note of the setback after Wednesday night’s victory versus the Denver Nuggets.

“That absolutely sucks,” Bradds said. “It’s a gut punch for us, but the absolute biggest gut punch for him, especially with how well he was playing. It’s terrible, it sucks. Whenever you see somebody go down it sucks no matter where you’re at, what you’re doing.”

The No. 16 overall pick of the 2023 NBA draft has been quite the bright spot for Utah in the 2023 Summer League. George has averaged 21.6 ppg on an efficient 52.3% from the field in his three games in Las Vegas.

The most impressive part of George’s emergence is his ability to provide opportunities for his teammates.  Before going down with the injury, George dished out 32 assists in six games. Coming out of the draft it was unknown whether George would play the one or the two, but with a small sample size it appears he has a shot of being Utah’s point guard of the future.

Looking ahead, Jazz fans will be crossing their fingers that ankle injuries won’t be a re-occurring theme. George injured the same right ankle back in February that forced him to miss time at Baylor

George will have a little more than two months to get healthy when training camp starts on September 27.
