Jazz Update Lauri Markkanen's Status for Nets Matchup
The Utah Jazz face the Brooklyn Nets in the final matchup on a three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon. The Jazz will again be without some key contributors.
Jordan Clarkson (hand), Collin Sexton (hamstring), and Rudy Gay (back) are listed as out, while All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen (wrist) is questionable. The Nets enter the contest with a clean bill of health.
Utah heads into the game as an 8.5-point road underdog. However, despite being undermanned with the injuries, the Jazz have remained competitive.
Talen Horton-Tucker, Ochai Abaji, and Kris Dunn have all been able to parlay the extra minutes to improve their chances of being a permanent fixture of the rotation heading into the 2023-24 season.
Time is running out for the Jazz to make it seven consecutive years of making the playoffs. With only five games left in the season Utah is 1.5 games removed from qualifying for the play-in tournament.
With three games left against teams that Utah is chasing (Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder) it’s still feasible, but there’s no room for error.
As for the tank crowd, it appears Utah is trending to be in the No. 9 spot in terms of lottery odds, but that could change with a win today in Brooklyn. The teams that the tank fans should be cheering for are the Dallas Mavericks, Washington Wizards, and Thunder.
Following Sunday’s game, the Jazz will return to Salt Lake City for a three-game home stand followed by the season finale on the road versus the Lakers.
Tip-off for Sunday's game in Brooklyn is 1:30 pm MDT.
