The 2023 FIBA World Cup concluded last week as Team Germany, led by Dennis Schroder and Franz Wagner, were crowned champions. Kelly Olynyk was the only Utah Jazz player to medal at the tournament as Canada beat Walker Kessler and Team USA in the bronze medal match.

Along with Kessler, Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, Simone Fontecchio, and Omer Yurtseven all came home empty-handed. On the bright side, the conclusion of the tournament turns all attention back toward the ever-approaching NBA season.

In response, the Jazz provided an update about who’s back in town.

First and foremost, it's worth mentioning that the All-Star Markkanen is back in Salt Lake after a long summer that included both military service and the FIBA World Cup action for his home country of Finland. Markkanen played well, averaging nearly 25 points per game during international play. It's nice to see that he’ll have some time to reacclimate to the Jazz before training camp opens.

New Jazzman John Collins was also working out with some of his new teammates this afternoon. Going into his seventh NBA season, the former Atlanta Hawk will look to have a bounce-back season after a change of scenery.

One interesting note is that the picture does not show Brice Sensabaugh going through on-court drills. This could be absolutely nothing, but there's been no update on the rookie from Ohio State's recovery from the knee procedure that shortened his college season and kept him out of the Summer League. Hopefully, the Jazz are just being overly cautious with Brice, and he’ll be healthy and ready to go for the season.

This update also gave a first look at Yurtseven in Jazz colors, the big man who was signed by the team after two seasons with the Miami Heat. An ankle injury limited Omer to just nine games last season, so it is good to see him healthy and on the court again. He showed promise in his rookie campaign with the Heat and should provide nice depth with the Jazz.

Ochai Agbaji, Taylor Hendricks, Kris Dunn, Luka Šamanić, and Johnny Juzang are also in town working with the team. As we get closer to the season, we will continue to see more of the team assembling.

One thing's for sure: Jazz basketball is finally back on the horizon.
