Report: Jazz Sign Former Top-5 Point Guard
With only 22 games left this season, the Utah Jazz are adding some depth at the point guard position. According to The Athletic's Shams Charania and Tony Jones, Utah is signing point guard Kris Dunn to a 10-day contract.
“Former No. 5 overall pick Kris Dunn is signing a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz, sources tell me and Tony Jones. Dunn, a six-year NBA veteran, has played for Capital City Go-Go in G League this season," Charania tweeted on Tuesday.
This was a much-needed signing due to the departure of Mike Conley, Malik Beasley, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker paired with the waiving of Russell Westbrook on Monday. Prior to the Dunn signing, Utah only had one point guard on the roster in Collin Sexton.
Jazz fans may remember Dunn as a blue-chip prospect after he became a consensus All-American and two-time Big East player of the Year for Providence. He was a high lottery pick in the 2016 NBA draft selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but his career has fallen short of the lofty expectations coming out of college.
Dunn has played for four teams in a span of six years, with his most recent stint with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he averaged 7.6 ppg while dishing out 5.6 assists.
Dunn will attempt to resurrect his career in Salt Lake City, but will he see the court? That will be up to head coach Will Hardy, but with the lack of depth at point guard, there’s a plausible path for it to find its way.
