Report: Jordan Clarkson Makes Final Decision on Return to Jazz
Jordan Clarkson will be exercising his option with the Utah Jazz for the 2023-24 season, according to The Deseret News' Sarah Todd.
“I'm told Jordan Clarkson will exercise his player option to stay with the Utah Jazz for the 2023-24 season, according to league sources. This leaves the door open for the Jazz to extend his contract," Todd tweeted.
Most of the speculation was that Clarkson would be testing the free-agent market this summer, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Where it stands today, the former Sixth Man of the Year can become an unrestricted free agent in 2024. Although, with the news of Clarkson opting in, one has to assume that a longer contract could be in the works.
There’s now a log jam at both guard positions, with Clarkson and Talen Horton-Tucker coming back to Salt Lake City this year. The Jazz have 'THT,' Kris Dunn, and Collin Sexton battling for minutes at the point guard position, while Clarkson, Ochai Agbaji, and Keyonte George will most likely be the pecking order of the depth chart at shooting guard.
You can never have too much depth, although the latest developments are a major setback for George to get minutes to start the season. Also, with this breaking news, don’t expect Utah to make any big splashes in the free-agent market.
The combination of Clarkson, Horton-Tucker, and Kelly Olynyk coming back to Salt Lake City leaves Utah with about $14.1 million left in cap space.
