Report: Jazz Receiving Trade Calls on Kelly Olynyk
The Utah Jazz rumors continue to roll in leading up to the NBA trade deadline on February 9. The latest is in regards to forward Kelly Olynyk possibly being reunited with the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat.
Heavy's NBA insider Steve Bulpett dished the details.
“According to a league executive with knowledge of the situation, the Celts are still trying to learn what it would take to get Olynyk from the Jazz, but an Eastern Conference source whose club has been working the market for a center/power forward doesn’t believe the Heat or Celtics will be able to meet what Utah wants for Olynyk, averaging 11.9 points on 49.5 percent shooting (40.6 pct. on 3-pointers).”
With the emergence of Rookie of the Year candidate Walker Kessler, it makes sense that Olynyk doesn’t fit in Utah’s long-term plans, but what type of return could the Jazz get back for the veteran journeyman?
By himself, Olynyk won’t garner a first-round pick in return, being on the back-nine of a 10-year career with a contract that isn’t exactly team friendly. Also, his numbers have been trending downward since an ankle injury that occurred on December 17.
If Olynyk does get traded, expect Utah’s starting power forward to be part of a package that could garner a bigger return. It’s yet to be determined whether the Jazz are going to be buying or selling, but it does appear that Jazz fans should be ready for a roster reshuffle before Tuesday.
Stay tuned.
