NBA's New Flopping Rule Potentially to Trial During Jazz Summer League

The NBA’s Summer League in Salt Lake City could end up being the first time we see this new rule proposal in action.

The NBA’s attempt to limit flopping around the league has taken a new step, as announced this Thursday. After the last decade or so of the issue being a consistent topic of discussion around the league, we saw some rule changes finally being put to the test in an effort to limit it.

According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the NBA is having discussions of making the act of flopping a technical foul:

An interesting development that could be a change made sooner rather than later. The NBA has had a consistent motive to limit any action on the court that is unnatural or exploitive in order to maintain the integrity of the league entirely. Now, we see another case where this seems to be the expected outcome.

For Utah Jazz fans, this could peak some interest considering the Jazz could likely be one of the first guinea pigs of this rule change. The Jazz host an annual NBA Summer League in Salt Lake City with a collection of three other teams: the Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelpha 76ers, and Memphis Grizzlies. With Shams informing us that’s the time the change would enact, it would only make sense for it to start in Utah.

The Salt Lake City Summer League will take place from, July 3rd to July 6th. Then, we’ll see how new rookies and existing players take to these new league adjustments.
