Report: Jazz Send Simone Fontecchio to Pistons in Trade Deadline Deal

The Utah Jazz are shipping off their Italian sharpshooter to kick off the NBA trade deadline.

In just over 24 hours until the NBA trade window closes, the Utah Jazz have made a move on the market. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Jazz have decided to ship off starting forward Simone Fontecchio to the Detroit Pistons for a package consisting of Kevin Knox, a 2024 second-round pick (via WAS), and the draft rights to 21-year-old Italian Gabriele Procida, who was selected 36th in 2022.

Fontecchio has emerged as a reliable and efficient shooter during his 2023-24 campaign, posting averages of 8.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on 45.0/39.1/80.0 splits. He's also become a nightly starting in Utah during his second season pro, being a starter in 34 of 50 games this season.

He now ends up in Detroit, where he is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. Per Wojnarowski, the Pistons have signaled their intentions to keep him a part of their "longer-term core" and expect to re-up on a deal during the offseason.

The Jazz bring what projects to be a high second-round pick from Washington in the deal. Before the trade, Utah was a team holding zero capital entering this summer's draft, but now have the opportunity to bring in another young talent if they opt to keep the selection.

The Jazz still have ample time to continue making calls at the deadline, so stay tuned to what this front office might do leading up to the 1 PM cutoff on February 8th.
