The Utah Jazz will look to rebound from their opening night loss when they face the Los Angeles Clippers at the Delta Center on Friday night. Utah has a clean injury report heading into the contest, but the Clippers will be down a couple of contributors.
Starting small forward Terance Mann is out with an ankle injury, and shooting guard Brandon Boston Jr will miss the contest due to a quad injury. Also, reserve guard Bones Hyland was a late add with an ankle injury, and is listed as questionable.
Despite the Clippers not being at full strength, the Jazz will have their hands full. Led by future Hall of Famers Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers breezed through their first game over the Portland Trail Blazers. Unlike last season, Leonard and George appear to be at full strength to start the year. The pair combined for 50 points on 58.8% shooting in their opening-night victory.
As for the Jazz, head coach Will Hardy will still be going through some trial and error regarding different combinations in his rotation. In Utah’s loss versus the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night, Utah’s starting backcourt looked out of sync to begin the game. Hardy was asked about the logic behind starting Jordan Clarkson alongside Talen Horton Tucker to start the season.
"Talen pairs well with Jordan,” Hardy said. “Jordan is very much a good pairing with Lauri, because he provides a second threat offensively... when we made the determination that Jordan was going to play with Lauri, Talen was the best fit to play with Jordan."
Clarkson’s and Horton-Tucker’s spots in the starting lineup are safe for now, but rookie Keyonte George is starting to build up steam in his case to be inserted in the starting lineup. In his first game as a pro, George scored eight points on an efficient 3-for-5 shooting from the field.
The tip-off tonight is scheduled for 7:30 PM MST.
