Jazz Stay Unbeaten in Tournament Play, Defeat Trail Blazers 115-99
The Utah Jazz defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 115-99 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Folks, this was an absolute team effort for the Jazz, who were able to install a memorable climax to a fast start.
The show began in the first quarter, where the Jazz committed zero turnovers as a team. The momentum continued, and the Jazz dominated in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Once again, Jazz fans were treated to free chicken sandwiches after Blazers guard Shaedon Sharpe decided he'd miss two fourth-quarter free throws with 5:45 remaining.
Six Jazzmen scored double-figures, led by Jordan Clarkson's 30 points while shooting 68% from the field. Lauri Markkanen chipped in with 21 points, rookie sensation Keyonte George scored 15 points, John Collins and Kelly Olynyk each scored double-double efforts, and Collin Sexton dazzled with 13 points.
Jazz fans can also be proud that all 12 players in uniform received playing time, and no player recorded a negative rating. Now, that's how a focused team performs in an NBA contest.
The Blazers received solid contributions from Forward Jerami Grant, who scored 26 points but was in foul trouble early on and registered a -11 game rating. Deandre Ayton was also solid by dropping 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. He also shot 58.8% from the field but tallied a -5 game rating.
The Blazers dressed 14 players, rewarded 13 with playing time, and registered 12 with negative game ratings. This performance highlights what happens when a team is not ready to compete from the tip-off.
Recent scheduling has favored the Jazz, and they will have additional rest days before battling the Phoenix Suns on Friday night at Delta Center at 8:00 p.m. The Jazz now sport a record of 4-7 and moved to the No. 11 spot in the Western Conference.
