Former Kings G Rajon Rondo Announces End to NBA Playing Career
Former Sacramento Kings point guard Rajon Rondo has decided to retire after spending over 15 years playing in the league. Rondo exits with two NBA championships from his time on the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, along with four All-Star appearances.
Sharing an alma mater with De’Aaron Fox, Rondo is on a long list of legendary point guards in Sacramento’s history. While he only spent one year with the team in the 2015-16 season, Rondo posted some career highs with the Kings by averaging 11.7 assists per game. The guard led the NBA in dimes three times in his career, one of those years being in Sacramento.
Despite not making the playoffs while sharing the court with guys like DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay, Rondo said that his time in Sacramento was “a fun season” for him. The guard was able to control the offense, and it showed in his incredible passing numbers.
Recently making an appearance on a podcast hosted by Matt Barnes, Rondo was asked if the NBA had seen the last of him.
“Absolutely. Yeah, I’m done. I can’t. I’d rather spend time with my kids.”
The Kings finished with 33 wins in the 2015-16 season, despite Rondo averaging a double-double alongside Boogie. Rondo’s career will be one for the history books as the kid from Kentucky puts an official end to his time after playing for nine different organizations.
Sacramento was fortunate enough to witness one of the last true “Point Gods” the league will see.
