With the 2023-24 regular season dwindling down to a close, the Sacramento Kings are continuing their fight for the sixth seed in a tightly-contested Western Conference battle. After a few rough losses, the Kings currently sit in ninth place and two games out of the sixth place spot.

Unfortunate injuries to guards Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk have left Sacramento looking for someone to step up alongside stars De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, who have continued their dominance late into the season. Sabonis has been one of the best bigs in the league, dominating the boards every night while being a key playmaker.

In a one-point loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday night, Sabonis ended the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds, stretching his double-double streak to 60 consecutive games. Now tied for the 7th longest streak in NBA history with Elvin Hayes, Sabonis has an opportunity to continue making history in the last five games of the season.

Sabonis cements himself as only the fifth player ever to have a double-double streak of 60 or more games. On top of that, the former Gonzaga University standout carries with him the longest streak since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976, demonstrating a consistency the league hasn’t seen in decades.

A lack of offensive options after season-ending injuries to multiple players means even more responsibility has been put in his hands. The Kings’ big man is only shooting 48% in the month of April through three games, and that number may need to rise if Sacramento wishes to escape the play-in tournament.

Sacramento will take on the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday evening as they aim to gain back some ground in the West. The game will tip off at 4:30 p.m. PT.
