Kings Finish 2023-24 Season With 2 NBA Stat Leaders
Many people would say the Sacramento Kings underperformed in their 2023-24 regular season, winning three fewer games than the season prior and hanging onto a potential playoff appearance by a thread. The bright spots for the Kings have shined through the inconsistency, headlined by their star duo of De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.
Despite neither Fox nor Sabonis getting All-Star recognition this season, the two reigning All-NBA Third Team members have shown out this year. Sabonis has captured an NBA record for the longest double-double streak, while Fox has proven to be one of the most talented point guards in the league.
While they will not get awards to credit their success this season, Fox and Sabonis have been producing alongside the best in the league.
For the second consecutive season, Sabonis led the league in rebounds per game with 13.7, beating out Minnesota Timberwolves Rudy Gobert (12.9). The rebounding monster grabs boards like few the league has ever seen, a primary reason the Sacramento big man was able to break the double-double record.
Sabonis also led the NBA in double-doubles (77) and triple-doubles (26), beating out Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic in both.
Fox has gone his seven-year career without averaging less than 1.0 steals per game, but this season the star point guard took it to another level. Fox led the league in steals per game with 2.0, tying Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The defensive improvement from Fox is a strong reason why the Kings have become a more impressive team on that end compared to last season, and leading the league in steals is icing on the cake.
While the impressive play from Sabonis and Fox has not consistently contributed to wins for Sacramento, Kings fans should be pleased with their contributions this season.
