Kings' Kevin Huerter Set To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery
The Sacramento Kings have had poor injury luck this season, and Friday's update on starting shooting guard Kevin Huerter is not what fans wanted to hear. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Huerter will undergo shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum, sidelining him for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
With just ten games remaining in the regular season, it was expected for Huerter to miss the rest of the year, but the official word defeated any hope of a playoff return. Wojnarowski reports that Huerter is expected to make a full recovery before the 2024-25 season, as Kings fans can only wish him a speedy return to the court.
Huerter suffered a dislocated shoulder and torn labrum in Sacramento's home win over the Memphis Grizzlies on March 18, missing the last five games as sophomore guard Keon Ellis has started in his place. The Kings have gone 3-2 since his injury, and are 5-3 with him sidelined this season.
Through 64 games, Huerter was having his worst statistical season since his rookie year, averaging 10.2 points on 44.3/36.1/76.6 shooting splits. It is unfortunate for Huerter's second season in Sacramento to end prematurely, as the sharpshooter was a primary reason the Kings were able to break their 16-year playoff drought last season.
Kings fans can hope Huerter makes a speedy recovery, but until then, Mike Brown and the team will have to make their playoff run without him.
