De’Aaron Fox Wins Western Player of the Week After MVP-Level Numbers
When you search the dictionary for "clutch", a picture of De'Aaron Fox pops up. The Sacramento Kings guard is the beating heart of the franchise and proved his worth (not that anyone was questioning it) as he propelled himself into early MVP conversations over the past week after being named the NBA's Western Conference Player of the Week for week 4.
Fox, who recently came off an ankle injury suffered against the Los Angeles Lakers, has led the team to four victories since his return - putting the Kings on a six-game win streak to start the season 8-4. Last week, Fox averaged 32.3 points, 6.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 steals during those four games. His high for that stretch came on Friday against the San Antonio Spurs, where the Kings started extremely slow, going down 23-5 just five minutes into the game - but Fox helped the Kings charge back to win the In-Season Tournament game with a 43-point performance. Two days later, on Sunday, Fox rallied to 30 points against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Kings are a whole different team when Fox is inactive - noticeably struggling the first three games in his absence earlier this year, going 0-3 initially. When he's back, the team looks full of life and plays basketball which is arguably the most fun to watch of any team in the league. Fox's leadership and experience are invaluable to the franchise, and that's exactly why he is the franchise player.
This is Fox's fourth Player of the Week award and first of the season. Fox will look to continue his flaming season Monday against the New Orleans Pelicans, as the Kings look to continue their win streak to seven games amid a six-game road trip.
