NBA Legend DeMarcus Cousins Puts Official End to NBA Career

Boogie has played with multiple teams abroad since leaving the NBA.

While the Sacramento Kings have had their fair share of phenomenal players, one of the best was DeMarcus Cousins, who was drafted fifth overall by the Kings in 2015. Boogie is arguably the Kings' best center of all time, but he has not been in the NBA since the 2021-22 NBA season with the Denver Nuggets.

Boogie spent 7 years with the Kings, averaging 21.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game over that time. He was a three-time All-Star when he was traded from the Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans during the All-Star Break in 2017.

However, Cousins suffered a torn Achilles nearly a year later in January 2018, making it difficult to return to his peak. He then tore his ACL in the offseason in August 2019, setting him out for an entire year in a run of incredibly unlucky injuries.

In a recent interview with Cyro Asseo de Choch of Hoops Hype, Boogie had the following to say about his hopes of returning to the NBA:

"Honestly, no. I know I’ve had my time there. You know, there was a point where I was trying to make that happen. But the place I’m in my life now, just with everything I’ve got going on, just outside of basketball, like I’m in a good place. So, like I said, I’m excited for what I have ahead and my future. You know, my 12 years in the league were a small chapter or chapters in my life. And, I’m ready to move on to the next and see what’s in store for me."

While Boogie gave many great NBA memories and his individual dominance will always be remembered, it looks like we will not see him in the league again. He most recently played with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League after a stint with the Mets de Guaynabo in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional league.

While the 33-year-old moves on to the next chapters of his life - and is surely destined to make big things happen - fans can officially put the idea of Boogie playing for their team to rest.
