Former King Makes Case for NBA Return With Social Media Video

Former Kings lottery pick Tyreke Evans faces off against John Wall in an intense video.

The Sacramento Kings fanbase has been begging the franchise to make necessary adjustments to the roster to build a championship-caliber team, requesting to address the backup point guard position. With the downfall of Davion Mitchell and the mediocrity of Keon Ellis, is it time for Sacramento to look elsewhere?

In the 2009 NBA Draft, the Kings selected Tyreke Evans with the 4th overall pick, and the electric guard made an immediate impact on his way to Rookie of the Year. Through the first four years of his career in Sacramento, Evans averaged 18.2 points, 5.3 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.

Although Evans' time in Sacramento was short-lived, considering he was their fourth overall pick, he had a significant impact on the franchise. Evans made a quick 14-game return to Sacramento in early 2017 but played his last NBA game in 2019. Since leaving the league, Evans has made minimal noise about a return, but a recent social media video has people talking about the possibility.

In the video, Evans goes head-to-head against former first-overall draft pick John Wall, as the two electric guards show their competitive edge. Wall has also exited the NBA, playing his last game in January 2023. While Wall, 33, and Evans, 34, are not in the NBA, the video shows they are good enough to earn a spot on a team.

An Evans and Sacramento reunion is unlikely, but the former King might get a shot elsewhere if the video is an accurate representation of his skill. Many NBA teams could use an offensive spark off the bench, and Evans might have enough left in the tank to contribute.
