Kings Affected by Two Missed Calls in Win vs Grizzlies
Despite coming out with the win, the Sacramento Kings could've had a chance to seal the deal before overtime against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. The Kings may have blown a 12-point fourth quarter lead, but there were multiple foul calls missed by the referees that would have changed the game.
In the NBA's Last 2 Minute report for the game, officials acknowledged that there were two missed foul calls that would have both gone against the Grizzlies' Jaren Jackson Jr. One call would have sent De'Aaron Fox to the line after a missed shot, and the other would have also sent Domantas Sabonis to the charity stripe after a loose ball foul as the Kings were in the bonus.
Had both calls been made, Jackson Jr. would have headed into the overtime period with five personal fouls instead of three. On top of that, the Kings would have received four free throws in a chance to widen their lead before the end of regulation.
This marks the second-straight game that the Kings have missed out on a call in the last two minutes of regulation. In Saturday's loss against the New York Knicks, Sabonis was hit in the face in a missed call that resulted in a Kings turnover. Sacramento loyal have good reason to be upset with a lack of calls in game-deciding moments.
Sabonis in particular has fallen victim to many missed calls after physical play, leading fans to joke about how often he gets hit in the paint.
Inconsistent officiating continues to be a widely-recognized problem in the league, but it's difficult to find a solution for an issue that's been persistent for this long. For Sacramento, they can only hope that calls can go their favor in the final 15 games of the regular season.
The Kings are heading northbound to Ontario where they'll take on an injury-riddled Toronto Raptors squad on Wednesday night, and one can only hope that the refs make the right decisions.
