Kings' Domantas Sabonis Breaks Double-Double Record
Many fans and media personnel questioned the Sacramento Kings' decision to trade rising star Tyrese Haliburton to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Domantas Sabonis. Every game, Sabonis further proves that Sacramento made the right choice.
In Monday's win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Sabonis recorded his 54th consecutive double-double, breaking the record for the longest double-double streak since the ABA-NBA merger. Sabonis took the record from former Minnesota Timberwolves big man Kevin Love and has shown no signs of breaking the streak anytime soon.
Through his last 54 games, Sabonis has averaged 20.2 points, 14.4 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game, as the star big man is truly stuffing the stat sheet every night. Sabonis capped off his record-breaking night with a triple-double, putting up 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in Sacramento's 108-96 win over Philadelphia.
Despite being omitted from the 2024 NBA All-Star game, Sabonis is a sure-fire 2023-24 All-NBA team honoree, leading the league in triple-doubles (25), double-doubles (67), and rebounds per game (13.7). Since being left out of All-Star weekend, Sabonis has led the Kings to 11 wins in 17 games, including eight of the last 11.
Sabonis has been disrespected by the media time and time again, but the star big man is starting to get his flowers with the incredible season he has had. With 54 consecutive double-doubles and counting, Sabonis continues to cement himself as one of the best big men the game has ever seen.
