Kings-Grizzlies Injury Report: Kennard, Williams Status Revealed
The Sacramento Kings have tended to struggle against inferior teams this season, and their matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night is a tale Sacramento fans have seen many times already. The Kings are five games into their six-game road trip, as they wrap it up against Memphis before hitting the road. Picking up a win to finish the home stand 4-2 is necessary for a Sacramento squad fighting for playoff position.
The Kings are 2-0 against the Grizzlies this season, winning both games in Memphis by an average of 20 points. Their last matchup was highlighted by the array of Grizzlies that were inactive, and they are gearing up for a repeat as they have struggled to stay healthy all season long.
The Kings and Grizzlies have revealed their Injury Reports ahead of Monday's matchup:
Sacramento Kings:
Trey Lyles - OUT (knee)
Sasha Vezenkov - OUT (ankle)
Memphis Grizzlies:
Brandon Clarke - OUT (achilles)
Luke Kennard - OUT (personal)
Ja Morant - OUT (shoulder)
Scotty Pippen Jr. - OUT (shin)
Derrick Rose - OUT (groin)
Marcus Smart - OUT (finger)
Lamar Stevens - OUT (thigh)
Yuta Watanabe - OUT (personal)
Ziaire Williams - OUT (back)
Vince Williams Jr. - DOUBTFUL (knee)
With nine players set to be sidelined and another trending in that direction, the Grizzlies will likely be down ten players as they visit Sacramento on Monday. For reference, most NBA rosters have 18 players. So, the Grizzlies have more players inactive than active.
This has been the unfortunate story of Memphis' season, as they have fallen to 23-45, patiently waiting for star point guard Ja Morant to return next season.
On Sacramento's side, they are without Trey Lyles and Sasha Vezenkov, who have each suffered injuries that keep them out for weeks at a time. Vezenkov should be nearing his return to action, as he has already missed 15 consecutive games and 22 of the last 24.
Lyles is set to miss his third consecutive contest after suffering a sprained MCL in last week's meeting with the Milwaukee Bucks. Sacramento's bench takes a hit having Vezenkov and Lyles sidelined simultaneously, but still have the pieces to put together a productive second unit, led by Sixth Man of the Year frontrunner Malik Monk.
The Kings are looking to not slip up against a short-handed Memphis squad, while the Grizzlies are looking to play spoiler in Sacramento's playoff race. The two Western Conference squads tip off at 7 PM PT.
