Kings Linked as ‘Top Landing Spot’ for Raptors’ F Pascal Siakam
After today’s shake-up of a trade with the Toronto Raptors sending OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks, other rumblings have continued to follow as a result. One of those many rumors has centered around the Raptors’ other largely rumored mover, Pascal Siakam.
After Masai Ujiri decided to send off Anunoby for a collection of RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a second-round pick, the focus effectively shifted towards what the next move is for the 2x-All-Star. He’s a free agent this upcoming summer, so it’s not hard to see the Raptors pivot off him to avoid losing out in a few months for nothing in return.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports, Siakam has continuously been linked to the Sacramento Kings, along with the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers as destinations if dealt ahead of the league’s February trade deadline.
"League personnel are certainly prepared for a Siakam trade to follow suit. Before this weekend's deal, Siakam was the Toronto veteran whom rival executives were pegging as the most likely Raptor to be dealt, particularly after the team nearly sent Siakam to the Atlanta Hawks this summer, league sources told Yahoo Sports. He is under an expiring contract after his own extension talks fell short of a deal this fall. In addition to Atlanta, the Kings and Pacers have been routinely mentioned by NBA figures as potential suitors for Siakam."
Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report continues to add to why a move for Siakam could make sense for the Kings, effectively adding to an All-Star core of De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis to create a deadly big three.
"One big move could vault the Kings to the West's top tier, so Siakam could make a ton of sense here...Siakam would presumably start in the frontcourt alongside Sabonis, creating a deadly one-two combo there. But the bottom line is that those two plus Fox would be very hard to deal with on a nightly basis given their scoring prowess. In other words, the Kings should be doing their due diligence to see if they can bring Siakam aboard."
Through an initial 31 games played this season, Siakam has averaged 21.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists on 50.9% shooting from the field. Adding another 20 PPG scorer to this mix of threats offensively would give Sacramento an extremely versatile and explosive unit on offense to lean onto nightly.
A package for Siakam would likely be heavy in draft assets or younger players. Its hard to imagine the Kings parting ways with a player like sophomore Keegan Murray, but other contributors deeper into Sacramento’s rotation would be on the table.
There remains over a month until the deadline arrives, so there’s plenty of time for GM Monte McNair to get a deal done. Considering the early trade we saw this weekend, things might start to heat up around the league sooner rather than later.
