After Team USA’s crushing loss during the 2023 FIBA World Cup, all eyes are looking ahead to next summer’s Olympics to see how the basketball powerhouse can bounce back from its embarrassing collapse. Failing to reach the heights of even a bronze medal last week, the team needs a breath of fresh air if they want to remain serious about the games next summer.

With the reported incoming assistance of Los Angeles Lakers F LeBron James, help is on the way.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, James has led the recruitment of many other NBA superstars to join the 2024 Olympic team. Along with these eye-catching recruits, Sacramento Kings G De’Aaron Fox has gained some attention as a potential addition to the squad next summer:

"James has spoken to Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum and Draymond Green, and they are all prepared to commit as well. Separately, Phoenix’s Devin Booker, Portland’s Damian Lillard, Sacramento’s De’Aaron Fox and Dallas’ Kyrie Irving also have serious interest in committing, league sources said."

"James’ effort started well before the USA World Cup team, led by Anthony Edwards and Mikal Bridges, lost at the World Cup, and was not related to whether this summer’s team won or lost. While the American national team has struggled at the last two World Cups, the program has won four consecutive golds at the Olympics."

If participating, Fox would be the first Kings player to compete in the Olympics since C DeMarcus Cousins in 2016, where he happened to appear alongside current Sacramento F Harrison Barnes en route to win the gold.

Eight years later, the Kings have another chance to see their own become an Olympian.

An exhilarating 2022-23 campaign for Sacramento has effectively garnered some consideration for Fox to represent on the national stage. Through 73 games last season, he averaged 25 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists to lead the Kings to their first playoff berth in 16 seasons.

We remain in the early stages of the selection process for next summer, but already seeing Fox’s name show on the radar is surely an encouraging sign for all Kings fans.

With another NBA season on deck to raise the bar, Fox can continue to lead Sacramento in another hopeful playoff-caliber season to bolster his Olympic bid further.
