Report: Kings' Keegan Murray Remains Unavailable in Trade Talks
The Sacramento Kings are reportedly looking to make moves ahead of the trade deadline and have made it clear who they are willing to trade. With less than a month until the deadline, the Kings have made Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter, and Davion Mitchell available, via Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports.
While these underperforming Kings have put on the trade block, Sacramento has clarified that they are not shopping standout sophomore Keegan Murray. ESPN's Zach Lowe reports the Kings have "zero interest" in including Murray in trade talks.
Murray would be that player [that the Toronto Raptors would have wanted in return for OG Anunoby], but the Kings have shown zero interest in discussing him, sources said. They are also concerned adding a third massive salary would hamper their roster flexibility beyond this season -- especially if they trade away picks.
Unsurprisingly, the Kings have made Murray unavailable, but their hesitance to trade for a "third massive salary" will limit their options to make significant upgrades. The available players that the Kings would likely avoid include Raptors' Pascal Siakam and Chicago Bulls' Zach LaVine.
The Kings have the necessary assets to make upgrades without giving up Murray, but they certainly cannot go out and get a third star to pair with De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.
Sacramento and their fanbase know they are potentially one move away from becoming title contenders, so expect them to stay aggressive ahead of the trade deadline. Keeping Murray out of trade talks is the right move, and not risking the franchise's future by bringing in a brutal contract is the obvious decision.
