Report: Kings Sign Summer League Standout Jordan Ford for Training Camp
With less than a month until NBA training camp, teams are wrapping up most roster decisions. Hours after the Sacramento Kings waived centers Nerlens Noel and Neemias Queta, they continued to make roster changes.
According to Sean Cunningham of FOX40, the Kings are signing G Jordan Ford to a training camp deal.
Ford, 26, has become a fan-favorite among Sacramento fans after an impressive NBA Summer League stint with the Kings. The 6'1" point guard has spent his entire basketball career in California. He grew up in Sacramento, went to Saint Mary's College of California, and started his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers.
After making his rounds around California, Ford returned to his hometown of Sacramento when the Kings signed him in October 2022. In 32 games for the Kings G League affiliate, the Stockton Kings, Ford averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.0 steals per game with impressive 49/40/80 shooting splits.
While Ford has limited NBA experience, Kings fans firmly believe in the hometown kid.
The signing gives the Kings three point guards heading into training camp, as Ford will play behind De'Aaron Fox and Davion Mitchell. While Ford does not have a secured roster spot for the 2023-24 season, it will be interesting to see what the Kings decide to do as training camp wraps up.
Ford can certainly compete for a final roster spot come opening day, but if not, he will likely find his way back to Stockton.
