Stars of the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces are putting their differences aside for a common goal of gold.

Major contributors to last season's WNBA Finals will return to the scene at the start of next month, as United States Basketball's women's national team will conduct training camp at Barclays Center on Feb. 2-4 as it prepares to embark on a run for its eighth consecutive gold medal at this summer's Olympic Games in Paris. New York and Las Vegas are well represented, as seven players from last season's finalists appear on the 18-woman camp roster released on Monday.

Reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart leads the New York contingent, flanked by Sabrina Ionescu and Betnijah Laney. Vegas will send Chelsea Gray, Kelsey Plum, A'ja Wilson, and Jackie Young, leading all WNBA teams with representatives on the American group.

New York and Las Vegas previously did battle as two of the most star power-packed teams in WNBA history, splitting four regular season matches and two championship set-ups. The Liberty prevailed in the in-season edition with a victory in the Commissioner's Cup final in August but Las Vegas had its revenge in the fall, taking the WNBA Finals in four games.

Training camp will lead an Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Antwerp, Belgium, set to be held on Feb. 8-11. The tournament, which will also feature Belgium, Nigeria, and Senegal, will serve as tune-up games for the Americans, who clinched a spot in the Paris Games by taking the gold in the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

“With less than 200 days until the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, we are excited to bring together a group of athletes who aspire to represent the United States not only in Antwerp, but ultimately Paris,” said Jennifer Rizzotti, USA Basketball Women’s National Team Committee chair in a statement. "Not only will the training camp be tremendously valuable but the qualifying tournament in Belgium will offer a meaningful opportunity to compete against world-class talent as we get one step closer to selecting the 2024 USA Women’s National Team.”

Both Stewart and Brittney Griner (Phoenix) will go for their third gold medals, having previously partaken in the gold medal runs in the 2016 and 2020 Games. Ionescu and Laney are looking to make their first Olympic runs but previously partook in the aforementioned World Cup showing in Sydney. Team USA took an 83-61 decision over a Chinese group led by another New Yorker, Han Xu. Stewart, then a member of the Seattle Storm, was named to the All-Tournament first team alongside Han and Wilson.

Team USA has earned the gold in each of the last seven Olympic tournaments, which included an MVP run for Stewart during the 2020 Games in Tokyo. With one more gold, Diana Taurasi (Phoenix) would become the most decorated Olympic athlete in Team USA women's basketball history: one more gold medal run would be her sixth, which would break a tie with Sue Bird for most of the tenured history of the squad.
