Old habits die hard.

The NBA announced on Monday that the New York Knicks would be fined $25,000 for a violation of league injury report rules on Mar. 27. New York had labeled center Mitchell Robinson as "out" due to an ankle injury but Robinson subsequently played in the game, a 145-101 Knicks victory at Scotiabank Arena.

At that time, the Knicks were perhaps used to placing Robinson in the "out" section on the daily injury report, as the tenured center had been out since December with the ankle ailment. Robinson's injury was originally believed to be season-ending, but hope for his return emerged when the NBA denied the Knicks a Disabled Player Exception meant to retain some of his 2023-24 salary.

The game in question was Robinson's first one back from the injury and he wound up earning eight points and two blocks in an abbreviated 12-minute showing. He has partaken in the six of the past seven games and has yielded his traditional role in the starting five to Isaiah Hartenstein. Robinson was on pace for a career-best in rebounding prior to his injury and was also a trendy choice for All-Defensive Team honors. He figures to be a valuable depth as the Knicks (46-32) close in on a playoff berth and prepare for what they hope is a lucrative NBA playoff run.

Robinson and the Knicks, 25 grand lighter, are back in action on Tuesday night when they continue a late road trip in Chicago (8 p.m. ET, MSG).
