Battery Charges Against Ex-Knicks Star Amar'e Stoudemire Dismissed
The Miami-Dade State Attorney's office dropped misdemeanor battery charges against former New York Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire this week.
Stoudemire, 40, was arrested in Miami in December for allegedly striking his daughter. In a statement obtained by the New York Post, the state attorney dropped the charges "dropped due to the failure of the victim to cooperate in the prosecution of the criminal case.”
"Today, I’m grateful that after a full investigation, all charges were dismissed," Stoudemire said in the aftermath of the dismissal in a statement posted on his Twitter account. "Fortunately, my family and most importantly, my incredible children are all doing well. My faith in the goodness we all possess has never wavered and has never been greater. My love for my family is without limits.
“I am appreciative of all the respect and support received from family, friends, and colleagues. Now that this chapter is closed, I look forward to all the great moments ahead with my family."
Stoudemire spent five seasons with the Knicks (2010-15) in an NBA career that began in Phoenix and also visited Dallas and Miami. That New York tenure included an All-Star appearance and All-NBA Second Team nomination after his first season in 2011. Stoudemire re-signed the Knicks on a one-day deal to retire as a New Yorker five years later.
His most recent professional experience was a two-year stint on the Brooklyn Nets' coaching staff (2020-22), which followed several years overseas in Israel and China.
