Knicks Dress Walt 'Clyde' Frazier For 'Barbenheimer' Premiere
If New York Knicks fans can agree on one thing, it's that franchise legend Walt "Clyde" Frazier knows how to dress for the occasion.
Frazier, cherished in Knicks lore for his contributions to both of the team's NBA championships, is equally renowned for his sense of style. He has frequently showcased colorful suits during his continued duties as the primary color commentator on MSG Network alongside Mike Breen.
Such endeavors perhaps made Frazier the perfect NBA legend to be part of the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon.
The Knicks' official Twitter account has made sure "Clyde" is equally represented in the continued debate between the films "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer," showcasing art that depicts Frazier in both a pink suit for the former and one of his darker threads for the latter. In the background of each movie-going Frazier, Madison Square Garden is depicted in shades of the pink and sepia tones that have dominated the marketing for each film.
Friday marks the long-awaited releases of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" in cinemas nationwide. Other than a shared arrival, the two films have little in common.
"Barbie," based on the world-famous toy line of the same name, is a lighthearted comedy starring Margot Robbie as the eponymous doll while "Oppenheimer" is a biographical drama where Cillian Murphy portrays J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who oversaw the creation of the first atomic bomb. "Oppenheimer" is directed by Christopher Nolan, whose prior releases (such as "The Prestige," "The Dark Knight," and "Dunkirk") have only amplified the somber feeling exuded by his latest's already-heavy subject matter.
The widely-divergent plots and tones have given way to countless memes and jokes across the internet, giving rise to the "Barbenheimer" movement. While some have chosen a side based on personal preferences, many have already vowed to see both films, which have both received strongly positive reviews.
Both films will potentially see some solid box office revenue from fans of the Knicks' Madison Square Garden roommates, the New York Rangers: Robbie is an avid supporter of the Blueshirts while one of the team's former skaters, Sean Avery, has a small role in "Oppenheimer" after also appearing in Nolan's previous picture, 2020's "Tenet."
