Why Haven't Knicks Signed Donte DiVincenzo Yet?

The New York Knicks still appear to be the front-runner to land Donte DiVincenzo, but the possibility of other additions like Paul George might be causing a delay.

All roads are pointing toward shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo coming to Manhattan and playing for the New York Knicks after he declined his $4.7 million player option from the Golden State Warriors.

SNY's Ian Begley explained the free agent is exploring the market, as Detroit, Minnesota and Chicago are interested in him. However, he still believes DiVincenzo will don orange and blue.

"If I was a betting man, right now I'd probably place money on DiVincenzo going to the Knicks," Begley said.

Newsday's Steve Popper mentioned that DiVincenzo will meet with three teams beyond New York but the reason why he and a few other depth pieces haven't been signed yet is due to a trade market that could potentially yield a star, causing the Knicks to be patient in their pursuit of DiVincenzo as they explore the market.

"I think the Knicks are also moving pieces here," Popper said. "We talked about the Obi move, they clear cap space that way. I think the Knicks are still trying to be active players in the trade market. If they sign Donte DiVincenzo for $12 million, as much as he's a great fit on paper and I think that is the most likely scenario, I don't think they want to get him at the risk of 'we could've had Paul George if we just waited'. They are just waiting for these trade pieces to fall,".

The Knick of Time Show's J. Ellis explained that DiVincenzo joining two of his former Villanova teammates (Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson) would be extremely beneficial to the team, but possibly waiting for a star like Paul George would be even better.

"At the end of the day, if you're telling me that he's going to cost me a bigger fish down the line, I'd rather wait for the bigger fish than put my eggs in a small basket that's going to move the needle slightly, but not really move it to where we need it to be,".Ellis declared.

Trading away Toppin and his $6,8 million salary provided some extra cap space for the Knicks in free agency. Signing DiVincenzo would be beneficial for the Knicks because of his three-and-D abilities, but the Knicks are doing their due diligence to see if an established star becomes available via trade.
