Warriors, Knicks Trade Idea: NY Lands Former No. 1 Pick

The New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors could strike a trade that would send Andrew Wiggins to the Eastern Conference.

The New York Knicks are looking for ways to improve their team. Fresh off their first postseason series victory in a decade, New York could go all-in with a trade to target someone like Philadelphia 76ers stars Joel Embiid or James Harden but something a little smaller may be more within their realm.

While he isn't a former MVP, Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins would be a significant piece for the Knicks if he was acquired in a trade. NBA Analysis Network suggested a trade that would send Wiggins to the Big Apple for a disgruntled Evan Fournier, Isaiah Hartenstein, and a future first-round pick.

The next item on the Knicks' agenda this offseason is to trade Fournier, and New York can accomplish that with this deal. Fournier still has a lot of money on his deal over the next two years and would likely need to attach future draft capital in order to deal him out.

Meanwhile, Wiggins is starting a four-year extension worth over $100 million this season, and the Warriors would give themselves some more flexibility by trading him away. The 28-year-old played in just 37 games last season while dealing with injuries and off-court personal issues. He averaged 17.1 points per game, the lowest total since his rookie year back in 2014-15 when he was the draft's top overall pick.

Wiggins' fit with the Knicks is questionable, considering his fellow Canadian RJ Barrett is also here for the next four years and can play a similar, if not identical, role. But he brings a ton of talent and could shape the Knicks for the better.
