Immanuel Quickley Extension: When Will Knicks Make Move?

Immanuel Quickley's future will be one of several subplots in an intriguing New York Knicks season.

When it comes to Immanuel Quickley's future, the New York Knicks won't be moving too quickly.

An NBA source told Sean Deveney of Heavy.com that there have been "no serious talks as of yet" when it comes to offering Quickley a metropolitan contract extension. Deveney says that there is "some pessimism about whether a deal can get done" but that "(contract) talks are not expected to heat up until October."

“(There has been) no substantive stuff," the source said. "There is basically a month or so, but in these things, that is plenty of time."

Quickley's contract extension ... or lack thereof ... will be one of the biggest storylines of the Knicks' autumn. The fourth-year man has been one of the most consistent New York contributors since arriving as a late first-round pick in 2020. Last year was his most impact yet, as he averaged a career-best 14.9 points and 4.2 rebounds en route to a runner-up finish in the Sixth Man of the Year vote.

The Kentucky alum appears intent on building upon last year's success and even surpassing it: though he's not involved in the United States' men's national basketball team's World Cup affair, he has posted video of his workouts with former NBA star Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

Quickley, 24, will likely be one of the Knicks' first men off the bench as they look to create their first postseason streak since 2011-13. Keeping him in blue and orange could prove to be a bit of a challenge.

Earlier reports indicated that Quickley would be seeking nine figures as he goes for his first big deal when his rookie contract expires after the 2023-24 season. New York is also particularly guard-heavy, having just brought in Donte DiVincenzo to partake in the Knicks' reserve effort after Obi Toppin was traded to Indiana.
