Immanuel Quickley Extension: How Much Are Knicks Offering?
Leave it to the new-century New York Knicks to become victims of their own success.
A new report from Michael Scott of HoopsHype revealed a new target price for Immanuel Quickley, who is set to hit restricted free agency next summer. Scotto confirmed a prior declaration that his floor is considered a four-year, $80 million deal, a seasonal rate that the Knicks are reportedly willing to meet.
But that could only raise if Quickley keeps up the momentum he generated last season.
"The Knicks would consider an extension for Quickley around $20 million per year, league sources told HoopsHype," Scotto declared. "Should Quickley play himself into a higher average annual salary, the Knicks may consider trading him as part of a package to acquire a star player."
Quickley has lived up to his first round billing ever since arriving from Kentucky in 2020 but last year was his best work yet: in 81 appearances, Quickley averaged a personal-best 14.9 points and 4.2 rebounds en route to a runner-up finish in the Sixth Man of the Year voting.
With the Knicks making no secrets about their intentions to add an established star to their fold and in the midst of paying off nine-figure extensions to RJ Barrett and Julius Randle, trading Quickley may be an uncomfortable yet plausible reality.
The fact that Quickley works in a crowded backcourt headlined by Jalen Brunson, could also lead to an unwanted exit. Quickley proved he was more than capable of handling the duties of a starter as well, averaging 22.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 21 opening five workloads in place of an injured Barrett or Brunson.
