Luck was not on Immanuel Quickley's side when it came to voting for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year Award.

The New York Knicks' backup guard fell short of the title bestowed to basketball's most impactful bench player, which instead went to Malcolm Brogdon of the Boston Celtics. Brogdon beat out both Quickley and Bobby Portis Jr. of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Brogdon's victory was revealed during TNT's pregame coverage for Game 3 of the series between Philadelphia and Brooklyn. With Brogdon's Celtics in Atlanta, home of TNT's NBA studio, to take on the Hawks on Friday, he was able to accept the trophy named after fellow Bostonian John Havlicek in person from Jamal Crawford, one of two three-time winners of the award alongside Lou Williams.

In his first year with Boston after six seasons between Milwaukee and Indiana, Brogdon averaged 14.9 points and sank 44 percent of his attempts from three-point range this season, that latter tally good for fourth in the NBA this season. Boston finished in the runner-up spot in the Eastern Conference this season and currently holds a 2-0 lead on Atlanta as the series shifts south.

Even though official recognition was not to be, anyone involved with the Knicks this season would be foolish to deny Quickley's impact on their 47-win season and fifth-place finish in the Eastern Conference. Quickley partook in all but one Knicks game this season and averaged a career-best 14.9 points and 4.2 rebounds. He proved quite valuable when Jalen Brunson and/or RJ Barrett were unable to appear in the starting five, averaging 22.6 points and over five assists and rebounds in 21 appearances in the opening five.

The Knicks certainly hope that Quickley will be able to rediscover the spark that earned him consideration for the award as their own playoff series switches venues: Quickley has struggled in the early portions of New York's matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, shooting lower than 31 percent from the field over the first two games. The tied series now faces two games at Madison Square Garden starting on Friday night (8:30 p.m. ET, MSG/ABC).
