Knicks Offering 6th Man Immanuel Quickley in Trade For 'Very Good Player'
Offseason after offseason, the New York Knicks are swinging for the stars. If they've got money, they'll use it. If they're targeting star players, they'll offer whatever possible to try and make the deal possible.
According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, the Knicks were in discussions with another NBA team, those conversations around trading guard Immanuel Quickley for a star player. Supposedly, the talks didn't make it too far before shutting down.
"I have heard of at least one situation where they spoke to another team about flipping Quickley for a very good player in his prime," Katz wrote. "Talks didn't go far, and it did not seem equivalent to what was going on this past autumn when the Knicks had legitimate discussions with various teams about dealing Quickley for a first-round pick or something like it, league sources told The Athletic at the time."
There are stars on the trade market right now: Karl Anthony-Towns could be on the move and Damian Lillard may want out, assuming the Portland Trail Blazers remain young, A fit with the Knicks, however, could be odd alongside Jalen Brunson.
Zion Williamson, who was linked heavily to the Knicks before being drafted, may be obtainable at the right price. Lastly, James Harden is on the trade market and linked to the Knicks as well.
However, as of right now, the available stars on the trade market are unlikely to be players the Knicks will target or trade Quickley and draft assets for. The 24-year-old is one season away from a contract extension, and finances could get dicey.
While not actively shopping Quickley, the Knicks seem willing to part from the guard at the right price. They seem to be one or two solid moves away from an even deeper playoff run than their most recent Eastern Conference Semifinals appearance.
Quickley's value is quite high, as he is coming off a runner-up finish in the Sixth Man of the Year voting, just behind Boston's Malcolm Brogdon.
