Denied a promotion in Indianapolis, Jacob Toppin had one waiting for him in New York.

The New York Knicks announced on Thursday that Toppin would be signed to a 10-day contract, putting him on the team after his showing in the Slam Dunk Contest at Lucas Oil Stadium over the weekend. In addition to Toppin, the team also locked up DaQuan Jeffries to an equal 10-day deal.

Toppin collaborated with his older brother, previous Dunk Contest champ, and former Knick Obi in his performance and wore the same sneakers the latter donned in his own victorious effort in 2022.

While Toppin did not reach the second round (where Mac McClung took down Jaylen Brown to take his second straight title), many, including teammate Jalen Brunson and fellow Dunk Contest star Aaron Gordon, were wowed by what he had to offer.

While the younger Toppin, an undrafted rookie out of Rhode Island/Kentucky, has mostly worked at the G League level in Westchester but earned his first major minutes when injuries and transactions ate away at the Knicks' rotation. As one of nine men dressed in the Knicks' last game in Orlando on Feb. 14, Toppin played 17 minutes and scored 11 points in a 118-100 defeat.

Toppin has been one of Westchester's most recurring contributors, as he's averaging 21.9 points and 8.5 rebounds in 13 regular season appearances.
