BREAKING: Injured Jalen Brunson OUT For Knicks' Sunday Visit to Boston

The injured Jalen Brunson will not be available for the New York Knicks as they face the Boston Celtics for the fourth and final time this season.

The New York Knicks announced that Jalen Brunson will not appear in the highly anticipated contest against the Boston Celtics on Sunday (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) due to foot soreness.

Brunson, February's Eastern Conference Player of the Month for February, has appeared in 61 games this season, previously missing time with a hip injury in December and another on Feb. 2 due to an illness. The Knicks (37-28) have gone 2-2 sans Brunson so far this season.

The injury news comes a game after Brunson survived a health scare in the Knicks' thrilling victory over Miami on Friday night: while defending a Jimmy Butler fastbreak in the late stages of the third quarter, Brunson landed awkwardly and appeared to roll his ankle.

He limped to the New York locker room but was back on the bench before the period let out. Upon his return, Brunson scored eight points over the final 12 minutes to help New York stave off a Miami comeback effort, finishing with 25 points.

With Brunson out, the Knicks will likely turn to Immanuel Quickley to take over his spot in the starting five. In 10 starts this season, often stepping in for Brunson or RJ Barrett, Quickley has averaged 17.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists. The Knicks might also be able to afford Miles McBride some minutes, as the defensive specialist has fallen out of the hallowed nine-man rotation since Josh Hart's arrival at the trade deadline. Fellow exile Evan Fournier is another potential substitution as well.

The hosting Celtics (45-19) also come in slightly hobbled: the team was already confirmed to be missing Robert Williams III (hamstring) but Malcolm Brogdon (ankle) was a late scratch as well.
