Will Jalen Brunson Play vs. Hornets as Knicks Seek 10th Straight Win?

Jalen Brunson's injury on Sunday against the Boston Celtics allowed Immanuel Quickley to break through a career night.

The New York Knicks announced that starting point guard Jalen Brunson (foot) will not play in Tuesday's game against the Charlotte Hornets (7:30 p.m. ET, MSG).

Bunson will miss his second straight game as he continues to recover from a foot injury sustained on Friday against Miami, one that forced him into the locker room during third quarter action. While Brunson returned to that game, putting in eight fourth-period points in a last-second win over the Heat, he did not play in Sunday's double-overtime victory in Boston, the Knicks' ninth in a row.

The Villanova alum's departure allowed Immanuel Quickley to embark upon a career-best showcase, scoring 38 points and playing 55 minutes in the 131-129 triumph. That point tally included the Knicks' first seven points in the sixth and final period to secure a big win over the Atlantic Division-leading Celtics. New York (39-27) is 7-4 when Quickley starts the game and he's averaging 19.8 points in those 11 premier appearances.

Brunson was originally listed as questionable for Tuesday's game, but Knicks fans likely won't mind having him sit as they face the reeling Hornets (20-46), losers of each of their last three and sitting in the penultimate spot of the Eastern Conference. Charlotte was recently dealt some poor injury news as well, albeit in far more dire fashion: star attraction LaMelo Ball will be held out of the remainder of the season due to an ankle sprain.
