Knicks Injuries: Jalen Brunson OUT For 2nd Half vs. Kings
The New York Knicks have announced that Jalen Brunson will not return to Thursday night's game against the Sacramento Kings due to a sore left foot. It's the same injury that kept Brunson out of the Knicks' past two games, including a Tuesday loss to the lowly Charlotte Hornets that ended a nine-game winning streak.
Brunson originally sustained the injury last Friday night in Miami and briefly left the game before returning to contribute to a Knicks victory. He skipped the last two games but returned to the starting five on Thursday in California's capital, having stepped out for Immanuel Quickley during his brief medical sabbatical.
Though Brunson posted respectable numbers (leading the Knicks with 19 points in the first half on 6-of-12 shooting), he appeared to be in visible pain at several points, bent over and observing his foot. TNT cameras later caught Brunson being led to another room at Golden 1 Center to undergo x-rays.Â
The idea of Brunson's injury turning into a lingering problem during the stretch run to the postseason only serves as an ugly subplot to what's been a brutal start to the Knicks' four-game Western Conference tour. Sacramento, currently the second seed on the playoff bracket, used a diverse scoring effort to jump out to a 16-point lead at the half and they've kept pace in the third quarter. Malik Monk led the team with 17 points off the bench over the first 24 minutes.
