Knicks Pay Day: NY Makes Decision on Jericho Sims
Call it Sims' City.
Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the New York Knicks plan to fully guarantee Jericho Sims' $1.93 million salary for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Sims to set to enter his third season in New York after arriving as the penultimate pick of the 2021 NBA Draft out of Texas. This is the latest financial landmark for Sims, who was already guaranteed most of his salary when the Knicks opted to keep him by a prior date in July.
The 6-10 Sims filled in serviceably for injured starting center Mitchell Robinson, making 16 starts. He averaged 6.3 rebounds and 4.2 points in that span and earned a late, injury-induced invite to the Slam Dunk Contest at Salt Lake City's All-Star Weekend, where he placed third in the competition won by Mac McClung.
His sophomore season also saw him shoot over 77 percent from the field though he was mostly confined to the immediate area around and below the net. Sims has made 93 appearances over the last two seasons, averaging 2.9 points and 4.4 rebounds overall.
While Sims is not a mainstay in head coach Tom Thibodeau's nine-man rotation the Knicks have apparently made an effort to keep him in blue and orange: a new report from Fred Katz of The Athletic states that the team has not been "amenable" to including either Sims to fellow 2021 draftee Miles McBride in a trade, even with potential superstars potentially up for grabs. McBride and Sims' current salaries are at the bottom of the Knicks' 2023-24 salary cap table beyond the training camp and Exhibit 10 contracts.
