76ers 'Have No Plan To Trade' Joel Embiid to Knicks

SNY's Ian Begley reported that Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid wants to finish career with team despite apparent interest from the New York Knicks.

Philadelphia 76ers' MVP center Joel Embiid hinted on Monday that he could move elsewhere in pursuit of a title. The New York Knicks were considered to be one of the potential destinations for Embiid, especially since president Leon Rose used to serve as his agent.

However, SNY's Ian Begley believes the 29-year-old will want to win a championship only in Philadelphia not "anywhere else" as the reigning NBA MVP previously hinted.

"I think you can slow down on any speculation or potential trade packages that land Embiid in New York," Begley said. "I'm told by people familiar with the matter that Embiid and Sixers president Daryl Morey touched base after those comments went viral."

Begley explained that their conversation was very progressive, even though NBA insider Shams Charania said their relationship was "essentially severed."

"The Sixers have no plan, no appetite at all to trade Joel Embiid to the Knicks or anywhere else," Begley said. "Embiid and the team both envision a scenario where Embiid finishes his career in Philly."

Another reason why the 76ers don't plan on trading Embiid stems from Philadelphia guard James Harden accepting his $35.6 million player option. All signs point to a trade away from the Sixers rather than a return. The Knicks were once listed as one of the favorites to land Harden's services.

Should they choose to go that route, the Knicks have a plethora of draft picks saved up from not acquiring Donovan Mitchell last summer that they can use in Harden-related offers.
